Visit Stedelijk Museum

REGISTRATION CLOSED

There will be an excursion to the construction site of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

The high-tech design by Benthem Crouwel for the city museum is characterized by a futuristic extension with a structure that floats above the entrance to the museum square and will be filled with a sandwich construction of Twaron- and carbon hybrid fibers. The strong material is chosen because it does not react to temperature fluctiations and thus can be seamlessly executed. (Bouwen met Staal)

Join us on this excursion on March 23th, 13.00-14.30. Free for members!

We will travel to Amsterdam by train, you will have to pay for the trainticket yourself. If you have any questions, please don’t hestitate to send an email to info@praktijkverenigingbout.nl

Company excursion: Octatube, December 10th 2010. Sign up now!

Innovation and development is typical of Octatube (www.octatube.nl). From the very first beginning, innovative products have been designed and applied; an inventive mindset and economical considerations are the driving powers. The synergy of architectural, structural and industrial design. The very close co-operation and frequent discussion between these three disciplines results in quick multi-level decisions. This multidisciplinary designing process proved to be a condition for pushing back frontiers and creating innovative designs and products. Integration of design, production and Assembly. These joined forces of designing, producing and assembling, the so-called ‘Design & Build” concept, provides one party of reference. This bears fruit, particularly for products with components that are very specific, new or experimental.

Review company excursion: Sorba, November 4th 2010

Early Thursday morning a touring bus with BouT members left for Winterswijk, a town in eastern Holland near the border with Germany. Wondering why anybody would travel there, here is one of them: Sorba. This company evolved from a heating installing company to one of the leading companies in façade engineering and offered us an opportunity to visit them. After a little over two hours driving through the idyllic landscape of Holland, which was very nice for our international members, we arrived at Sorba. They welcomed us with warm tea and coffee, of which the latter was much needed for a lot of us because of the early departure.

An impressing amount of projects from their portfolio was shown in a lecture about the company. Some of us had never even heard of Sorba before the excursion, so it was a big surprise to see in how many well known projects they were/are involved. However, they only get involved in non-standard projects, because many companies can produce standard façade components.

Sorba is not a company that produces materials for facades, it assembles complete facades. Sometimes they make some adjustments to the materials to fit the façade design. An example is the 90° bended glass panes plus window frames for Las Palmas in Rotterdam. Read the rest of this page »
